Overview of the ATM2: Treatment is a combined clinician/patient effort to manage and control musculoskeletal pain. It involves personalized body repositioning for finding unique, pain-free position for each user using a series of compressive belts in a weight bearing functional position. Once this position is found, the systems stabilize the patient allowing specific neuromuscular training based on body movement isolation that aims to achieve and sustain immediate pain reduction, increase range of motion, and improve function. The theory behind the system involves providing specific external compression to the pelvis and spine so the central nervous system realizes it no longer has to maintain a stabilized spine utilizing the global trunk muscles any longer; external force is imparted so these global muscles can relax. Once this is achieved, it allows for the spinal core muscles to be emphasized through a series of isometric contractions in the movement direction that was previously painful. With subsequent sessions, the spinal core muscles are being trained and over time strengthened to allow for spinal stabilization via the appropriate muscle group which are within the spine itself (i.e., multifidi). The following are several chronic training benefits gained from using a regular stretching

• Improved flexibility, stamina (muscular endurance), and muscular strength. The degree
of benefit depends on how much stress is put on the muscle. Medium or heavy
stretches are recommended. You can do this by building up to doing long stretches
of high intensity (see the next section for a detailed explanation of light, medium,
and heavy stretching).

• Reduced muscle soreness, aches, and pains. Use only very light stretches if muscle
soreness prevails.

• Improved flexibility with the use of static or PNF stretches. Medium or heavy stretches
are recommended.

• Good muscular and joint mobility.

• More efficient muscular movements and fluidity of motion.

• Greater ability to exert maximum force through a wider range of motion.

• Prevention of some lower back problems.

• Improved appearance and self-image.

• Improved body alignment and posture.

• Better warm-up and cool-down in an exercise session.

General Recommendations

• Try to include all the major muscle groups in any stretching program.
• Do at least two different stretches for each joint movement.
• Before any physical activity, use light stretches as part of the warm-up.
• After an exercise routine, cool down with medium-intensity stretches.
• If muscles are sore after exercising, use only light stretches two or three times with a
5- to 10-second hold for each stretch performed.
• If muscle soreness persists for several days, continue using light stretches two or three
times with a 5- to 10-second hold for each stretch performed.
• The majority of the stretches should be static.

During feeding, do not engage in other activities such as watching TV or checking email.

This is a time to bond. Every opportunity should be made to encourage the child to follow eye gaze. A disengaged infant should face the caregiver as much as possible. Invest in a stroller where the child faces the parent. Forward facing strollers increases stress and anxiety and as it further limits possibility for interaction. The same is true of tummy backs that have the child facing outward, rather than toward the parent.

If the infant resists cuddling and touch, lean over him as he lies on his back and look into his eyes. Massage him to increase tolerance. Lay next to the infant engaging him in eye contact, gently massage arms, legs, hands and feet. Different textures can be used in addition to hands. If a baby looks like he is having difficulty establishing an internal rhythm, parents should keep him very close so he can feel their heartbeat/rhythm. Rock him in a traditional rocking chair.
